Education and Training Department
To manage and coordinate the setting of nursing and midwifery education and training standards in order to equip graduates with requisite knowledge and skills to practice safely. This includes transferring of students, developing and reviewing of the nursing and midwifery curricula, approval of learning programmes and accreditation of practical training sites, setting, conducting and marking of Competence and Licensure Examinations and awarding of qualifications for various nursing and midwifery education and training programmes.
Structure
The departmental organisational structure is as follows:
FUNCTIONS
- Approval and withdrawal of training programmes for higher education institutions (HEI’s)
- Assess higher Education institutions (HEI’s) in order to determine their eligibility to operate
- Develops, reviews and approves Nursing and Midwifery curricula in order to incorporate current trends of practice
- Develops and reviews of teaching and learning training materials in order to align them to the curriculum
- Develops and implements capacity building programs to academic and clinical staff.
- Develops and reviews of education and training guidelines in order to ensure adherence to standard training practices.
- Administration and management of competence and licensure examinations.
- Conducts research on topical and emerging issues in order to generation information for informed decision making.
- Identifies and manages the risks in order to recommend appropriate mitigation measures
- Develops and implements capacity building programs to academic and clinical staff.
- Provides Secretariat services to education and examinations committees of the council.
